A Simple Conversation Could Save a Life.
Understanding your risk, recognizing the signs and knowing when to get screened can make all the difference. Explore resources, learn about lung cancer screening and discover how Memorial is helping our community protect their lung health.
Why We’re Talking About Lung Health
Some of the most important conversations start with a simple question.
Lung cancer often develops without symptoms in its earliest stages, making screening an important tool for those at increased risk. Through the Let’s Talk Lungs campaign, Memorial is helping patients and families better understand lung cancer risks, screening recommendations and the resources available right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Lung Cancer Screening May Save Your Life
Lung cancer kills more Americans than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined. Early detection can increase the survival rate as much as 92%.
Low-dose computed tomography (CT) lung screening has been proven to save lives. Memorial was first in our community to offer high risk patients this advanced, quick, painless way to help physicians find lung cancer before symptoms appear.
Low-dose CT screening eligibility guidelines have been expanded.
Now, many more current smokers, former smokers as young as 50, and those who smoked less over their lifetimes have become eligible.
You are eligible if you check ALL these:
✔ I am between 50 through 80 years old (or between 50 and 77 years old if I am on Medicare).
✔ I have a 20 pack-year history of smoking (this means 1 pack a day for 20 years, 2 packs a day for 10 years, etc.).
✔ I am a current smoker, or have quit within the last 15 years.
Most insurance plans cover screenings at no cost to patients who meet the new criteria.
