State-of-the-Art Wound Care for the Mississippi Gulf Coast

More than six million Americans suffer from chronic open wounds and sores which can become seriously infected, gangrenous and may eventually require amputation of a limb.

When left untreated, chronic wounds can diminish your quality of life and prevent you from doing the activities you enjoy.

Wounds that fail to heal properly can be the result of:

  • Diabetic foot or leg ulcers
  • Lower leg ulcers from poor circulation
  • Chronic soft tissue infections
  • Chronic bone infections
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Compromised skin grafts or flaps
  • Any condition that could lead to infection and amputation if not treated

Memorial Wound Care Services

Our board-certified wound care specialists use techniques such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapy, specialized dressings, compression dressings, minor debridements and total contact casting for the treatment of wounds that are acute or chronic and slow to heal.

Effective at-home care can also have a significant impact on wound recovery. Proper patient education and support are key parts of any care plan. Our team provides a range from recommending specialized equipment such as beds, to helping understand how wounds should be healing. Because studies show wounds heal slower for people with diets lacking in essential nutrients, we provide information about nutrition as part of treatment plans.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Memorial is Mississippi Gulf Coast’s only provider of 24/7 access to emergency and critical care hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). HBOT uses a special pressure chamber to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood. Oxygen is necessary for life and wound healing. Each treatment lasts 90 – 120 minutes depending on the cause of your non-healing wound.

Not everyone needs HBOT. In fact, less than 10% of our patients require HBO therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is just one of the tools in our wound care tool bag.
