Her Story, Our Promise: Dandria Wiley, FNP-C, and the Women Shaping Healthcare
We’re honoring and recognizing the incredible women who have made lasting contributions in their fields, taking exceptional care of our community and inspiring future generations. Dandria Wiley, a devoted Family Nurse Practitioner at Memorial, embodies the spirit of dedication, empathy, and empowerment in her role.
Dandria was nominated by a colleague at Memorial, who shared, “I’ve been a patient of Dandria for almost 8 years now. Each visit I’ve had, she has never changed. She is always the same person. She educates me on things that I come in for. Dandria also never rushes her visits with me. She laughs with me, talks with me, and makes me feel like I’m more than just a patient. Whenever I start my family, I will be sure that Dandria is a part of their lives, too. She supports Memorial’s mission by just being her. She’s soft-spoken, smiles, and laughs, which is what everyone needs to see coming into a doctor’s office. Dandria is my role model. She carries herself in a way that I aspire to be when I get older. Thank you, Dandria, for all that you do. Thank you for all the information you have given me and will continue to give me. Thank you for making me feel like more than just a patient and thank you for never changing!”
A Legacy of Service
With an impressive 22 years of service at Memorial, Dandria’s journey as a healthcare professional is a testament to her unwavering commitment to patient care and well-being. Her day begins with purposeful prayer and exercise, setting the tone for providing the best possible care to her patients.
Reflections on Women’s Contributions
“I feel privileged when I think of the women who came into the medical field before me. Those women fought hard to be allowed to practice and earn the respect that we are given today as female healthcare practitioners,” Dandria reflects. “There are so many inspirational women in healthcare, such as Mary Mahoney and Rebecca Lee Crumpler. So many trailblazing women endured trials and tribulations to earn the knowledge they obtained. The most inspirational woman to me is my mother. She provided unwavering support during my studies and inspired me to remain dedicated to reaching my goals.”
When considering what she wishes more people knew about women in the workforce, Dandria emphasizes the amount of time women spend helping others and how that can impact self-care.
She continues, “Women are the center of life and as a woman in healthcare, we have to not only educate others about work-life balance but be able to practice this motto ourselves. Women are very capable of multi-tasking at home and work. We quite frequently ensure that everyone is taken care of while neglecting us. As women in healthcare, we must do better with taking care of ourselves so that we are better able to treat our patients.”
Dedication to Patient Care
“I am grateful for the nomination and honored to be able to care for the individuals who come to our clinic. My patients are like family to me, and I do my best to take care of them to the best of my ability. Listening to my patient’s input and gaining a rapport is very important to me. When you are a patient, you are a pivotal part of your healthcare plan,” Dandria adds.
Dandria exemplifies the spirit of Women’s History Month through her dedication to patient care, advocacy for patients, and commitment to promoting well-being!
