May 2025 Daisy Award Nominee – Myranda Cunningham, RN, Gulfport Emergency Department

“This was the worst day of my life, but Myranda made it more bearable. I am not going to say what happened, but I was put in a room for hours with my mom, my dad, and my friend. I had been up all night and crying for hours. I was told that after dayshift came someone would take care of everything since one nurse takes care of everything. Myranda came in and found out who I wanted in the room. She sat down and talked to me about everything before she started. She made sure I understood and told me that I didn’t have to do anything I didn’t want to and that she would tell me everything before she did it. She took her time and talked to me. She reassured me and asked me every single time if I understood and if I was willing to consent. When the doctor came in, he was not as kind, but Myranda was there, so I knew I was safe. I started out crying until I thought I didn’t have any tears left but they kept coming. Within the first few minutes, I knew I was in a safe space, and she would take care of everything. She was like my guardian angel! I never would have made it through this without her! After everything was done, she asked if I wanted a hug and I said yes. She held me like she was my mom and let me cry. She whispered to me, and she told me that I did the hardest part, and I survived. She told me a lot of people couldn’t do what I did, and she told me I was a survivor. She held me until I stopped crying, and she made sure I was ready to walk out. She told me I could call her at work if I had any other questions and told me what time she left. It has been over a month, and I still think about her all the time. I was talking to a friend who works in a hospital, and she suggested that I write this post. I really don’t know what I would have done without her that day, but I know that she helped me heal and I will be better!”
Thank you, Myranda, for the exceptional care you provide our patients!
