Miguel Melgar, MD, PhD, FAANS, FACS
Dr. Miguel Melgar is a Board Certified neurological surgeon. He is a specialist in complex spine surgery and minimally invasive surgery for brain tumors.
He was most recently affiliated with Tulane University School of Medicine where he served as Interim Chairman of Neurosurgery and Director of Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine.
He has been staff neurosurgeon at the New Orleans Veterans Administration hospital since 2003. As part of the Tulane Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, he developed the Cerebral Endoscopic Surgery Program which involves the performance of endoscopic third ventriculostomies, intracranial navigation and keyhole microsurgery.
Dr. Melgar’s clinical interests include cerebrovascular diseases, extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery for the prevention of stroke, intracranial anyeursms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and cavernous angiomas.
He is a renowned expert in complex skull base tumor surgery including acoustic neuromas and meningiomas. Dr. Melgar is a designated Fellow of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
