When to Use a Walk-In Clinic Instead of the ER

Walk-In Clinics generally provide faster and less costly care than an emergency department. Healthcare professionals at Memorial’s Walk-In Clinics address minor, non-urgent conditions including, but not limited to:

  • Fever, sore throat, colds or flu
  • Ear infections
  • Rashes, minor burns or insect bites
  • Digestive discomfort or urinary tract infections
  • Other minor conditions

Emergency services include Trauma ER, Chest Pain ER and Medical ER as well as pediatric care.

Level II Trauma Center

Our Emergency Department in Gulfport provides the only state-designated Level II Trauma Center, the highest level of trauma care available on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

As a Level II Trauma Center in Gulfport, Memorial provides initial care to severely injured trauma patients utilizing a full range of trauma capabilities, including the emergency department’s 11-bed trauma unit, diagnostic imaging, full-service surgical suite and intensive care unit. Memorial is the only hospital providing full coverage neurosurgical services, as well as coverage for orthopedic and cardiothoracic surgery among other specialties.

Emergency Cardiac Services

Memorial Emergency Department in Gulfport has:

  • 9 designated chest pain rooms offering Cardiac Evaluation and Interventional Care.
  • 4 dedicated cardiac catheterization labs to provide immediate access to life-saving interventions for chest pain patients.

Our cardiovascular center’s four cardiac catheterization labs provide immediate access to life-saving interventions for chest pain patients. Cardiac catheterization is an imaging procedure that provides the most precise heart disease diagnosis currently available. An emergency angioplasty/stent replacement performed by our experienced heart team in one of our cardiac catheterization labs can save the life of a patient having a heart attack. Memorial is committed to excellence in heart attack care as a Designated STEMI Receiving Center by meeting the Mississippi State Department of Health requirements of 24/7/365 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and comprehensive care from heart disease prevention to cardiac rehabilitation. STEMI, Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction, is a very serious type of heart attack during which one of the heart’s major arteries is blocked.

Primary Stroke Center

In 2007, The Joint Commission certified Memorial Hospital at Gulfport as a Primary Stroke Center, making it the first of its kind in the state of Mississippi. Stroke patients in our community can now receive the highest level of stroke treatment available in the nation. Certification means that the services Memorial provides have the critical elements necessary to achieve long-term success in improving patient evaluation and managing stroke care.

Obstetrics Emergency Care

Memorial is the first hospital on the Coast to offer a 24-hour Obstetrics Emergency Department (OBED) dedicated for pregnant people. The OBED in Gulfport is staffed with Board Certified OB/GYNs to provide care for pregnancy-related emergencies and to diagnose labor.

Conditions commonly treated include abnormal vaginal bleeding, complications associated with a high-risk pregnancy, decreased fetal movement, increased blood pressure, preterm labor and ruptured membranes. Memorial also provides OB Hospitalists. These in-house OB physicians have additional training with advanced fetal assessment and monitoring. They are available to assist with any issues and emergencies that may arise.

Orthopedic Trauma Services

Memorial in Gulfport offers Level II trauma surgery with medical and surgical procedures including partial and total joint replacement. Inpatient rehabilitation is offered by Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a partner of Memorial, located in the East Tower, Suite 900, on the second floor of Memorial Hospital. Outpatient rehabilitation is offered at multiple locations along the Coast. P.T. Solutions and Memorial Outpatient Rehabilitation have partnered to provide convenient locations for patients recovering from joint surgery.

Memorial Hospital Stone County Emergency Department offers services to Stone County residents and the surrounding areas. Staffed by board-certified physicians, we provide the compassionate care you deserve and the high quality of care you expect from Memorial.

Our Emergency Room is ready to assist in a wide range of issues (even the smaller, less severe), bringing complete care closer to home. For major emergencies, Memorial Hospital Stone County has access to Memorial’s Level II Trauma Center in Gulfport. We pride ourselves on getting to know our patients and their families.
