Equipment
We rely on technology to make many aspects of our life easier. The medical field is not different in this way. Technology enhances the talents and experience of our robotic-assisted, trained surgeons to allow them to deliver precise and consistent results. Our goal is to restore our patients, helping them heal safely and efficiently so they may return to doing the things they love – faster.
Robotics can be applied to a variety of surgical procedures. Many patients experience less scarring and faster recovery with robotic-assisted surgeries. Here is a glimpse of our technology:
da Vinci® X and Di HD Robotic-Assisted Surgery
Memorial’s da Vinci Si HD® Robotic Surgical System allows surgeons to remotely control tiny instruments to perform intricate operations through very small incisions. Benefits experienced by patients may include a shorter hospital stay, less pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, fewer transfusions, less scarring, faster recovery and a quicker return to normal daily activities. None of these benefits can be guaranteed, as surgery is necessarily both patient- and procedure-specific. Normal surgical complications may occur with surgery.
Why robotic-assisted surgery?
- Robotics may be used for a variety of reasons, primarily a tool for a surgeon to reach areas that were once unreachable and manipulate tissues once captured during elaborate surgeries. Procedures include:
- Cutting away cancer tissue from sensitive parts of the body such as blood vessels, nerves or important body organs
- Gallbladder removal
- Hysterectomy
- Kidney removal
- Pyeloplasty (surgery to correct ureteropelvic junction obstruction)
- Pyloroplasty
- Radical prostatectomy
- Tubal ligation
- Hernias – hiatal, abdominal, umbilical and inguinal
