January 2026 Daisy Award Honoree – Victoria Cain, RN, ICU
“Tonight, I witnessed the true love and care of a nurse. The room I saw this was not my own family member, but by the Lord’s grace I was able to witness this act of humanity. It was very evident this person was at the end of their life. When no family was around the bedside, I watched this nurse pull a chair up, sit down, take the patient’s hand and play gospel in the end. She never left. I couldn’t help but excuse myself from my father’s room, and take a minute in the outside bathrooms after seeing the care that happens in this ICU. The nurses in Memorial intensive care unit are extraordinary. Showing compassion in every moment. She reminded me that nurses are human too, as I watched her cry for this person she did not know outside of doing her job. I’m so thankful for nurses and what they do.”
