February 2025 Daisy Award Honoree – Nicole Sims, RN, 7ABCD
“This was the first nurse I met when I was admitted to the hospital after spending the day in the ER. Of course, I was exhausted, not feeling well and upset. Who wants to be in the hospital and sick for their 50th anniversary and missing their trip to Niagara Falls? I would break down and cry. This nurse was there for me and talked to me, and hugged me, showing so much compassion and trying to lift my spirits. This nurse was very knowledgeable of her nursing skills, taking the time to explain to me what I did not understand in terms I could understand.
I feel this nurse has all the qualities that make an excellent nurse. She is intelligent, friendly, compassionate, and relentless in obtaining the best possible outcomes for her patients. She treated me as if I were a close friend or family member, even in the times I may have been difficult to deal with because of how I was feeling. This nurse was very conscientious of my safety when I was walking as I had oxygen on an IV pole to take with me. She was not only with me but explained the safe way to move around. Thank you for reading this and taking the time to consider this awesome nurse for this DAISY award. She is very worthy of receiving it!”
