Memorial Health System Celebrates 75 Years
This year marks a significant milestone for the largest health care system on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Memorial has been dedicated to healing, inspiring, and transforming the health of our community since 1946. Memorial’s expansive footprint includes two hospital facilities, licensed for a total of 328 beds; three outpatient surgery locations; a medical office building; outpatient diagnostic centers; more than 100 Memorial Physician Clinics, and post-acute services including skilled nursing, long-term care, certified Alzheimer/Dementia unit, and continuous care community living.
“Our growth has been remarkable thanks to the commitment of more than 5,000 team members, our Board of Trustees, and our owners, the City of Gulfport and Harrison County. The dedication of our healthcare heroes cannot be overstated, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where we have seen our team shine as we have worked together,” said Memorial President and CEO Kent Nicaud.
Dr. Richard Tilley, recently retired Memorial Internal Medicine Specialist, reflected on the history of our health system in honor of our anniversary. Dr. Tilley began practicing in 1977, for a total of 44 years as a provider in our community. Hear his story:
Although the COVID-19 pandemic limited opportunities for gatherings, Memorial team members still celebrated by visiting the Memorial History Exhibit on the main campus that featured a timeline of the health system and donated health care artifacts from the past. Team members received a birthday package to help celebrate the milestone during the anniversary week. View some of their photos below!
