Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces Burdonne Young Scholarship Winners

GULFPORT, Miss. — The Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced this year’s winners of the Burdonne Young Scholarship. The scholarships are named in honor of Burdonne Young, former nurse for Memorial Hospital for over 50 years. These scholarships are awarded annually to dependents of Memorial employees.
Scholarships in a healthcare related field were awarded to Jessica Boger and Ricky Raidell Floyd II.
Jessica is the daughter of Elaine Boger, Customer Service Representative. She is a 2008 graduate of Gulfport High School, and currently attends Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and pursue a degree in Nursing. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta.
Ricky is the son of Regina Floyd, RN, Program Coordinator for Neurosciences. He is a 2009 graduate of Gulfport High School where he was a member of several clubs including Student Council, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Key Club. Ricky plans to attend the University of Mississippi and pursue a degree in Pharmacy.
Scholarships in a non-healthcare related field were awarded to Eric Cloyd-Simcoe and Jasmin Kirkwood.
Eric is the son of Helen Cloyd, RN. He is a 2009 graduate of Gulfport High School where he was a member of the Gulfport High School football team. He also participated in MS Power Haz-Mat Clean-up, B.U.S.Y. (a designated driver program), Special Olympics volunteer and a Jonestoberfest Volunteer. Eric plans to attend Mississippi State University where he will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.
Jasmin is the daughter of LeVon Kirkwood, COS/IS Dept. She is a 2009 graduate of Gulfport High School. She is a volunteer for Angel Food Ministries and a volunteer for the local library’s children’s summer art program. Jasmin will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall where she plans to major in Graphic Design.
