Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces Burdonne Young Scholarship Recipients

June 12, 2015 GULFPORT, Miss. —Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced the winners of the 2015 Burdonne Young Scholarships. The scholarships are named in honor of the late Burdonne Young, former nurse for Memorial for over 50 years. These scholarships are awarded annually to dependents of Memorial employees enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student at a college or university in the Fall of 2015 or are currently enrolled at a university. Scholarships in a healthcare related field: Tanner Nielson is the son of Stephanie Nielson, Memorial Physician Clinics – Dr. Burwell. Tanner attended Harrison Central High School where he attained a 3.89 GPA and scored a 30 on the ACT. Tanner plans to attend the University of Mississippi majoring in Biochemistry. While at Harrison Central, Tanner was a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Spanish National Honor Society as well as several other leadership positions in a variety of student and campus organizations.
