*POLICY: The Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program (SLRA) provides eligible employee up to $10,000 per calendar year paid directly to the employee’s Federally issued student loan servicer. Eligible employees are required, under written agreement, to maintain full-time employment with Memorial for a minimum of 2 years. Student loan repayment assistance is limited to a total of $20,000 per eligible employee.
*REQUIREMENTS: A. Eligibility 1. Eligible employees include full-time employees who have received a graduate or undergraduate degree in the discipline required for the critical shortage area(s) and/or key skilled position as determined by Memorial’s CEO. New employees are eligible after 12- weeks of continuous employment. 2. Student loan assistance payments will continue for employees on an unpaid leave of absence for up to 12-weeks. 3. Loans eligible for repayment assistance include authorized U.S.-based education loans made, insured, or guaranteed, by the employee for the employee’s own education, under Parts B, D, or E of Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965; or a health education assistance loan made or insured under Part A of Title VII of the Public Health Service Act, or under Part E of Title VIII of that Act. Such loans include Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Direct subsidized, and Direct unsubsidized Federal Stafford loans; Federal and Direct Federal Plus loans; Direct subsidized, Direct unsubsidized, and Federal Consolidation loans; Defense loans; National Direct Student Loans; Perkins Loans; Nursing Student Loan Program loans; Health Profession Student Loan Program loans; and Health Education Assistance Loan Program loans. These are federally insured loans made by educational institutions or banks and other private lenders. B. Repayment Amounts The maximum amount that may be paid is $10,000 per employee per calendar year, and $20,000 total.
Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program Procedures 1. The employee must submit a Tuition Reimbursement/Student Loan Repayment Application to their Director. Once approved, the Director will forward the application to the Benefits Office for processing. 2. Approved SLRA Program participants must sign a written service agreement (Exhibit A) that requires the employee to complete, at a minimum, a 2-year period of full time employment with Memorial Health System.
