Celebrating Black History Month – Cassandra Brown
Cassandra Brown is from Shreveport, Louisiana, and relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her family more than 20 years ago. She holds a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Project Management from Louisiana State University-Shreveport, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, and is a Certified Lean Practitioner. She has been a member of team Memorial for 18 years.
“I have a passion for helping others and being of service whenever and wherever possible. Helping someone to realize their worth and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves is motivation to continue to help and share with others.”
Supporting Memorial
In her role of Human Resources Operations Project Manager and as the Chair of Memorial’s Employee Advisory Committee, Cassandra impacts every member of the Memorial team. She says, “I enjoy working with a group of professionals who ensure that HR operational processes are in place for the entire organization.”
In addition to project management, Cassandra has worked extensively in administration, informatics, leadership development, and management training. She has also led the design, development and implementation of different programs and strategies.
Uplifting others
Cassandra is known for encouraging those around her. In one instance, she supported a colleague who did not think they should pursue a position. “Helping her to realize that she was more than qualified and assisting her through the process was a rewarding experience. When we cross paths and I see her thriving in a position that she never thought she could achieve, it’s confirmation that serving others allows one to make a true difference in another person’s life.”
Impacting her community
“While I am not in a clinical role, I feel that the benefits, wellness strategies, and educational programs that we implement in HR can help address some of the health disparities in African American employees. Social factors and diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke have always affected our communities more than others, and having access to services and benefits that can address these disparities can help improve outcomes.”
Thank you for all that you do for our community, Cassandra!
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
