Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Performs radiographic and/or medical imaging and related procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care and evaluates outcome.
- Prepares and performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine exams to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, respecting the patient’s ability and comfort.
- Performs imaging examinations using appropriate protocols established by the medical director.
- Corroborates patient’s clinical and menstrual history with procedure ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
- Ensures all requested examinations are completed prior to releasing patient.
Maintains quality control and quality assurance in the assigned division.
- Accurately prepares and receives and records radioactive material used for predetermined procedures for routine and special procedures.
- Performs daily area surveys and weekly wipe surveys for detection of radiation contamination as stipulated by License and Regulating Agencies.
- Demonstrates compliance with “ALARA” Standards by minimizing radiation exposure to self and others through the conscientious practice of radiation safety techniques.
- Performs daily calibrations on all nuclear medicine equipment.
- Keeps accurate and timely records on all radioisotope receipts, preparations, calculations, patient doses and disposals as specified by regulatory agencies and department policies.
- Ensures all quality control criteria are met before any procedure is performed on a routine basis.
- Calculates and prepares radioactive material using sterile and radiation safety techniques.
- Performs emergency procedures for the proper and safe decontamination.
Communicates patient/family health care needs to the appropriate health care provider.
- Provides patient education.
- Communicates variances and/or significant events to appropriate caregiver in a timely manner.

Qualifications
Education:
- Vocational/Technical Diploma
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) program
- Nuclear Medicine, Radiologic Sciences or Allied Health Sciences
Experience:
- 0-1 year as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
