Exceptional Care That Transforms.

Memorial Health System the first in Coastal Mississippi to use new advanced technology for treating patients with heart arrhythmias

More than 37 million people worldwide live with AFib and numbers are predicted to more than double by 2050

GULFPORT, Miss. – January 3, 2024 – Memorial Health System is the first to use the Abbott TactiFlex™ Ablation Catheter in Coastal Mississippi, offering a new option for patients suffering from Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). The TactiFlex catheter is the world’s first ablation catheter designed with a unique flexible electrode tip and contact force sensing to treat patients with atrial AFib.

The TactiFlex Ablation Catheter, Sensor Enabled, made by Abbott is the world’s first ablation catheter with a flexible tip and contact force sensing that allows for more accurate positioning of the catheter – providing up to two-times higher stability in a beating heart – for consistent therapy delivery.

A cardiac arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm that typically develops when disease or injury disrupts the heart’s electrical signals, causing the heart to beat erratically. One of the most common cardiac arrhythmias in the world, atrial fibrillation (AFib) can affect how efficiently the heart pumps blood through the body, causing symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath or lightheadedness. The condition can also increase a person’s risk of stroke.

Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. B. Judson Colley, III, uses the TactiFlex catheter on scar tissue in the heart that is generating abnormal electrical signals and disrupting a patient’s natural heartbeat. As the number of patients receiving cardiac ablation therapy worldwide has grown, new ablation technology, such as Abbott’s TactiFlex catheter, adds accuracy and precision to ablation procedures.

“It is an honor to be a part of the Memorial physician team and provide heart rhythm care to coastal Mississippians,” says Dr. Colley. “We are committed to offering new options to patients in our community to improve their outcomes.”

The Memorial Heart Rhythm Clinic specializes in diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders.
