GULFPORT, Miss. – January 3, 2024 – Memorial Health System is the first to use the Abbott TactiFlex™ Ablation Catheter in Coastal Mississippi, offering a new option for patients suffering from Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). The TactiFlex catheter is the world’s first ablation catheter designed with a unique flexible electrode tip and contact force sensing to treat patients with atrial AFib.
A cardiac arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm that typically develops when disease or injury disrupts the heart’s electrical signals, causing the heart to beat erratically. One of the most common cardiac arrhythmias in the world, atrial fibrillation (AFib) can affect how efficiently the heart pumps blood through the body, causing symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath or lightheadedness. The condition can also increase a person’s risk of stroke.
Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. B. Judson Colley, III, uses the TactiFlex catheter on scar tissue in the heart that is generating abnormal electrical signals and disrupting a patient’s natural heartbeat.
