Memorial Physician Clinics Welcomes Pediatric Rheumatologist Dr. Laura Tasan

GULFPORT, Miss. – February 27, 2025 – Memorial Physician Clinics is pleased to announce that Dr. Laura Tasan, MD, a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist, has joined the Dysautonomia Center of Mississippi at Southern Mississippi Heart Center in Pascagoula.
Dr. Tasan brings specialized expertise in pediatric dysautonomia, a condition affecting the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, temperature regulation, and sweating. When the ANS malfunctions, it can lead to a wide range of symptoms that vary in severity. Dr. Tasan is committed to advancing care for young patients with this complex disorder.
Common Symptoms of Pediatric Dysautonomia include:
- Dizziness or fainting (due to blood pressure irregularities)
- Abnormal heart rate (too fast or too slow)
- Gastrointestinal issues (nausea, vomiting, bloating, constipation, diarrhea)
- Difficulty regulating body temperature (excessive sweating or lack of sweating)

Dr. Tasan earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and premedical studies from Boston University before completing her medical degree at Ross University. She pursued her pediatric residency training at the University of Kentucky and completed a pediatric rheumatology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2018.
With a strong background in hypermobility syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), and dysautonomia, Dr. Tasan has been at the forefront of treating children with these conditions. Her clinical approach integrates collaboration with pain management, genetics, cardiology, and psychiatry specialists to provide comprehensive care. She is an active member of the Childhood Arthritis Research and Rheumatology Alliance, the American College of Rheumatology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
