Memorial Health System Achieves B Rating from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
GULFPORT, Miss. – November 15, 2024 – Memorial Health System is proud to announce that it has achieved a B rating from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the system’s commitment to patient safety and the reduction of preventable harm. This rating, part of the Fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grades, reflects Memorial Health System’s ongoing dedication to improving safety standards and delivering high-quality care for patients on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, assigned twice each year, evaluates nearly 3,000 hospitals across the United States. Each hospital is graded based on a comprehensive methodology that uses up to 30 performance measures derived from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and additional data sources. These measures fall into two key categories: Process/Structural Measures, which assess the care environment and adherence to best practices, and Outcome Measures, which evaluate patient results and safety outcomes. With 50% of the overall grade attributed to each of these domains, Leapfrog ensures a holistic view of a hospital’s safety record.
“We are committed to maintaining and enhancing our culture of safety for all patients and families in our community,” said Memorial Health System Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shawn Dufford. “This B rating reflects the dedication of our clinical and support teams to process improvement, who work each day to prevent medical errors and deliver the highest standards of patient care.”
Leapfrog’s ratings are developed in collaboration with a national Expert Panel of patient safety experts who determine appropriate measures and scoring methodology. The panel’s methodology and transparency have been widely recognized and peer-reviewed, making Leapfrog a trusted resource for consumers seeking information about hospital safety.
The B rating underscores Memorial Health System’s focus on continuous improvement and dedication to patient-centered care. Memorial remains committed to building upon this achievement, advancing initiatives that support patient safety, and ensuring the well-being of every individual entrusted to its care.
