Memorial Health System First in Mississippi to Offer Latest Robotic Surgery Technology
Da Vinci 5 System is Intuitive’s most advanced and integrated platform
Gulfport, Mississippi — October 15, 2024 — Memorial Hospital Gulfport is pleased to be the first hospital in Mississippi to offer the Intuitive da Vinci 5® (dV5) surgical system, designed with the goal of further advancing technology used in minimally invasive care.
The 5th Generation dV5 System was approved after 10 years of development, and 150 design changes were incorporated into the dV5 compared to the 4th Generation Xi System. Da Vinci 5 is designed to transform surgery to enable better outcomes, efficiency, and actionable insights. This system offers surgeons, for the first time, the ability to feel, measure, and benchmark tension on tissue with robotic instruments. Da Vinci 5 has 10,000 times the computing power of the Gen4 Xi System which will facilitate many important digital, clinical applications to enhance robotic surgery.
“Memorial is proud to lead the way in Mississippi by offering the Intuitive da Vinci 5® surgical system. We are committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that our community has access to the highest quality of care,” said Memorial Health System President & CEO Kent Nicaud. “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to bring the most advanced healthcare solutions to our community, improving both the efficiency and quality of care we provide.”
Robotic-assisted surgeries benefit surgeons and patients alike. Patients may experience a shorter hospital stay, less pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, fewer transfusions, less scarring, or a faster recovery with robotic-assisted surgery.
“This cutting-edge technology enables our surgical team to perform complex procedures with greater precision and control, leading to faster recoveries and better outcomes for our patients,” shares Memorial Health System General Surgeon Dr. Derek Ware.
Da Vinci 5 is the newest entry to the da Vinci portfolio of systems. The system can be used for minimally invasive surgical procedures for urology, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries. As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.
