Memorial Staff Honored with MORA’s Spero Award
The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) recently recognized several Memorial Hospital Gulfport employees with the Spero Award. This award is given to individuals who consistently exceed expectations in supporting MORA’s mission to ensure the best outcomes for organ donation.
The first-quarter 2024 recipients include:
- Joey Yates, RN, House Supervisor
- Katlyn Atchley, RN, ICU
- Natalie Cherry, Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
The second-quarter recipients are:
- Whitney Sutton, RN, ICU Manager
- Shawnessy Beverin, IT Project Manager
MORA has been hosting the Spero Awards for a decade, recognizing the invaluable contributions of community and hospital partners who make organ, eye, and tissue donation possible. The awards, now presented quarterly, take their name from the Latin word “Spero,” meaning “HOPE.” This hope is at the heart of organ and tissue donation, benefiting both transplant recipients and donor families. The collective efforts of hospital partners, healthcare professionals, donor families, volunteers, supporters, and corporate partners are crucial in advancing MORA’s lifesaving mission.
“It is a great honor for our staff to receive the Spero Award. Their unwavering dedication to serving families and fulfilling the wishes of their loved ones is truly remarkable,” said Memorial Health System Chief Nursing Officer Mary Brobst, MSN, RN. “Organ donation represents the ultimate act of generosity, and we are proud of our team’s commitment to going above and beyond in supporting this important process.”
“As MORA marks its 30th year of serving Mississippi families through donation, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Memorial Hospital Gulfport and their dedicated staff to bring hope through organ and tissue donation,” said Haratio Keys, Director of Hospital Development at MORA.
