Memorial celebrates 75 years of serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast
The largest health system in the region continues to improve the patient experience
Memorial has expanded into multiple hospitals, two nursing centers, four outpatient surgery centers, satellite outpatient diagnostic and rehabilitation centers, and more than 100 Physician Clinics in its 75-year history. To reflect this expansion of care, Memorial today announced new initiatives that honor the past and celebrate the future for Coastal Mississippi’s largest health system.
While the main hospital in Gulfport is still very much at the heart of the health system, Memorial has grown to become so much more than that. With more than 100 sites established throughout the region to bring healthcare directly to more people in our community, Memorial is now a wide-ranging, multi-disciplinary healthcare organization – thus the changing of our name to Memorial Health System.
Memorial is moving from “building a healthier community” to a bolder mission – “to heal, inspire and transform the health of our community”. Memorial’s new vision is “to be the driving force that improves the health of our patients throughout their lifetime”. The health system’s values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Empathy will positively impact every patient, visitor, and team member. In addition to these fundamental changes, Memorial unveiled a new logo, brand colors, and website that reflect the growth of the system through the years.
“Today is a day of celebration for our health system. While we know that healthcare has been challenged in countless ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic, today we recognize the significant increase in care we provide to our community,” said Memorial Health System President and CEO Kent Nicaud. “The new elements representing our health system were designed with our patients in mind. We are committed to keeping our community healthy in every action we take.”
In its 75-year history, Memorial has been the first for significant medical advances to better serve the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Most importantly, Memorial has remained committed to keeping services local.
The new Memorial logo indicates a visionary spirit and dedication to forward-thinking. The negative space between the arrows and triangles creates a medical cross, a common symbol of protection. The arrows evoke a sense of expansion, progression, and thought leadership. To learn more about the new brand, view this video. View the 75th-anniversary brochure here.
