Memorial Celebrates National Donate Life Month

GULFPORT, Miss. —The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) will be on-site at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport on Tuesday, April 17, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., in the Memorial parking garage atrium, to promote the importance of organ and tissue donation and to register donors. There are currently more than 115,000 people in America waiting for organ transplants. Each day approximately 22 people die waiting for an organ transplant that would have given them a second chance at life. In addition, each year hundreds of thousands of people benefit from donated tissue and corneal grafts that are used for life-saving, sight restoring and reconstructive purposes.

Organ and Tissue donation facts:

  • Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race, or medical history.
  • All major religions support organ, tissue, and eye donation and see it as a final act of love and generosity towards others.
  • In the United States, it is illegal to buy or sell organs and tissue for transplantation.

Please stop by the booth on April 17 for more information or to enroll in the Mississippi Donor Registry. For more information call 896-5224. Donors may also register online at donatelifems.org.
