Mississippi Paralysis Association Donates to Memorial Hospital Foundation

For Immediate Release September 28, 2010

The Mississippi Paralysis Association (MPA) recently donated $38,900 to help fund the Memorial Neurosciences and Rehabilitation’s chapter of ThinkFirst, a national injury prevention program aimed at educating young people about brain and spinal cord injury prevention.

The Memorial chapter provides bicycle helmets to school-age children in grades K-5 who attend a ThinkFirst presentation. Children in grades 6-12 will be given a link to Memorial’s ThinkFirst interactive website where they can engage in activities to reinforce what they learned during the presentation. The program teaches them the importance of vehicle, bicycle, water, playground, recreation, sports, and weapon safety to protect them from brain and spinal cord injuries.

The MPA is dedicated to helping serve the paralyzed individuals of the state of Mississippi. They provide funding for spinal cord injury research, sports grants, sports equipment to paralyzed individuals, peer counseling, and Habitat for Humanity.
