Memorial Hospital Serves as an Academic Center and Teaching Facility

August 27, 2015 GULFPORT, Miss. —August 2015 marks the fourth year Memorial has welcomed third and fourth-year medical students from William Carey University. Eighteen students will participate in the program at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport from August 2015 through July 2016. William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine is the second medical school in Mississippi and the first in the region to focus on osteopathic medicine. The curriculum is discipline-based and is structured around the Core Competencies of the osteopathic profession in order to maximize the students’ opportunity to train for a career in Osteopathic Primary Care. David Northington, DO, serves as the Medical Director of the Preceptor program. The physicians that serve as Preceptors are on the adjunct faculty of William Carey University.
