Memorial Foundation Announces Burdonne Young Scholarship Winners

The Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced this year’s winners of the Burdonne Young Scholarship in a reception given in honor of the scholarship winners on August 7 at Memorial Hospital.

The scholarships are named in honor of Burdonne Young, former nurse for Memorial Hospital for over 50 years. These scholarships are awarded annually to dependents of Memorial employees. Scholarships in a non-healthcare related field were awarded to Kaitlyn Stovall and Danielle Gargiulo.

Kaitlyn is the stepdaughter of Linda Stovall, Program Manager, Inpatient Rehabilitation. She is a 2008 graduate of Our Lady Academy where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Cross Country team, co-editor of the school newspaper and Campus Ministry. She will be attending the University of Mississippi in the fall where she plans to major in International Studies.

Danielle is the daughter of Fred Gargiulo, Director of Special Projects. She is a 2008 graduate of Our Lady Academy where she was a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Society, co-editor of the school newspaper and co-captain of the varsity swim team. She will be attending the University of Mississippi in the fall where she plans to major in Journalism.

Scholarships in a healthcare related field were awarded to Michael Shore and Chase Richardson. Michael is the son of Margaret Shore, Emergency Department Manager. He is a 2008 graduate of Gulfport High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Club, Christian Outreach Club and the Team Fusion Robotics Club. He will be attending Mississippi College in the fall where he plans to major in Pre-Med.

Chase is the son of Paige Richardson, Manager of Decision Support. He is a 2008 graduate of Harrison Central High School where he was involved in the Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Academic Team. He is also a children’s church volunteer, involved in the youth choir, drama team and youth leadership team. Chase will be attending Mississippi College in the fall where he plans to major in Biology.
