Memorial Cancer Center Medical Oncologist Completes Board Certification

January 15, 2014 GULFPORT, Miss. — Olivia Berry Hightower, MD, Memorial Medical Oncologist, recently passed board certification in Medical Oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). ABIM examines and certifies internists who have chosen to acquire additional education and training to subspecialize in various medical disciplines. A Board Certified medical oncologist uses medical and chemotherapeutic treatments of cancer. Dr. Hightower joined the Memorial Medical Oncology Clinic after completing her residency in Internal Medicine and Oncology Fellowship at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. She earned her medical doctorate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. In addition to being Board Certified in Medical Oncology, she is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Hightower practices with five other Medical Oncologists/Hematologists with the Memorial Medical Oncology Clinic, which has offices in the Memorial Cancer Center in Gulfport and the Memorial Physician Clinic on Popp’s Ferry Road in Biloxi. With the addition of Dr. Hightower’s Medical Oncology Board Certification, Memorial Cancer Center has six Board Certified Medical Oncologists and three Board Certified Hematologists on its staff.
