Physical & Occupational Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) is more than just exercises. It can help enhance your mobility and quality of life by improving your strength, balance, endurance, flexibility and posture. PT can maximize your ability to get around at home and in the community, as well as participate in your favorite recreational activities.

Physical therapists can help restore function or mobility lost by a variety of conditions. Their knowledge and training in the musculoskeletal system can help you:

  • Reduce pain
  • Improve range of motion
  • Recover from injuries
  • Prepare for surgery
  • Recover from surgery
  • Prevent injuries
  • Avoid surgery

Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on your ability to fulfill your “occupations”. Generally, OT assists with the ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as getting dressed, toileting and bathing as well as Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) such as driving, shopping, cooking and recreational activities. It aims to change your environment in the most effective ways. Working through an occupational therapy program will make you feel more in control of your life, and it will give you the strength and confidence needed to adapt to your environment.

An occupational therapy treatment plan is then designed based on these goals to help you manage daily activities in a more effective way. Your timeline will look like the following:

  • Complete an extensive physical evaluation
  • Identify goals
  • Undergo an individualized care plan to reach goals
  • Review results to ensure benchmarks are being hit
  • Adjust your plan if needed
  • Set new goals
  • Repeat
