Varicose Vein Treatment

Are you suffering from varicose veins or spider veins? Now there’s an advanced process to minimize their pain and visibility. Memorial Vascular Surgery Consultants can help you enjoy warmer months with confidence, no referral needed.

How do the treatments work?

Radiofrequency endovenous ablation therapy is a minimally invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to effectively treat patients suffering from varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). A provider will insert the ablation catheter into the diseased vein to provide consistent and uniform heat to contract the collagen in the vein walls, causing them to shrink and seal closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood will reroute to other healthy veins.

Sclerotherapy effectively treats varicose and spider veins, and it involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades, typically within a few weeks.

How long do the procedures take?

Radiofrequency endovenous ablation treatments take approximately 45-60 minutes. Patients should expect the process to take up to two hours with normal pre- and post-treatment. Sclerotherapy sessions take less than 30 minutes.

Are the treatments painful?

Most patients report feeling little, if any, pain during the procedures. You will receive a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area during radiofrequency endovenous ablation treatments.

How quickly can someone return to normal activities?

The average patient usually resumes normal activities within a few days. Most patients report a noticeable improvement in their symptoms within 1-2 weeks following the procedures.

How effective are the procedures long-term?

The success rate is 95-98% over the first three years.

Are these procedures covered by insurance?

Many insurance companies pay for the procedures. No referral is needed.
